Woman Selling Drugs at Daycare Gets Busted

A woman who had been selling drugs out of her daycare in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, was sentenced to prison recently—three months after pleading guilty to charges of selling prescription pain pills. She had sold 16 hydrocodone pills which had been prescribed to her, sources said. “I take full responsibility for what I did. I have lost a position I’ve held for 14 years. My whole life has been affected. But I will get through this,” she said before the sentencing came down from the judge.

As part of Missouri’s drug laws, the judge could have sentenced her to up to 15 years in prison for a first offense. But he decided to be lenient and give her what’s called “shock probation,” where she’ll be sentenced to four months in prison. After doing her time, she’ll be upgraded to probation if she has behaved in prison. Though it might seem tempting to try to sell your leftover pills for some quick cash, this woman’s story shows that dealing in prescription drugs does not pay.
