Philadelphia Drug & Alcohol Detox Program

The first step toward drug and alcohol recovery is cleansing the physical body. Though Seabrook® does not consider detoxification part of our therapeutic rehab program, we understand it is vital to recovery success.

What Is Detoxification?

Detoxification is a precursor to treatment, and it begins with systematic withdrawal from the addictive substance. Designed to treat the acute physiological effects of halting drug or alcohol use, detox may occur in a residential or outpatient setting under the care of a trained clinician or physician.

Depending on the severity of the addiction, physicians may recommend pharmacological intervention during detox. These managed medications help clients withdraw more comfortably from opiates, nicotine, benzodiazepines, barbiturates, alcohol and other sedatives. In some cases, detox is a medical necessity since untreated withdrawal may be medically dangerous or even fatal.

It is important to note that detoxification is not a treatment modality, and it does not address the psychological, emotional, social or behavioral problems associated with alcoholism and substance misuse. It does not typically produce the lasting behavioral changes necessary for recovery. Instead, detox is most useful when it incorporates formal processes of evaluation and referral to appropriated extended care treatment programs.

Begin Detox for Yourself or a Loved One

Seabrook is a CARF-accredited addiction treatment center. Our 28- to 35-day inpatient program does not include detoxification, but we are proud to partner with a network of clinical specialists to arrange for “intensive stabilization” when detox services are needed. Holistic modalities also include therapies that reduce physical and emotional withdrawal symptoms and restore physical balance, including massage, acupuncture, ear seeds, cupping and magnet therapy.
