Take a Hike!
If you missed #NationalTakeAHikeDay yesterday, it’s not too late to “take a hike” this week. Get outside and take advantage before the winter snows appears! Consider taking a stroll to enjoy the leaves changing colors while breathing the crisp fall air. Did you know hiking is beneficial while in recovery? Exploring the great outdoors is known as a natural healer. There are many physical and mental health benefits of hiking such as lower blood pressure, decreased stress, a boost in your mood, enhanced quality of sleep, and stronger bones.
If you struggle with depression, you might want to give hiking a try. Focus groups have shown that people who struggle with depression copped much better after hiking verse walking in a store. If you’re faced with a difficult problem try taking a step into the woods. Observing the complexity of nature can help you put life’s troubles into perspective. Unlike other sports, hiking is not expensive and has no age limit. Before you take your hike this week; call a friend to join, wear a good pair of sneakers, pack a small backpack and drink water.
