Guns and Drugs Seized at Boardwalk Businesses
A recent police raid on the boardwalk in Wildwood, New Jersey turned up stashes of drugs and guns that were seized by police. The drugs included almost 1,600 packets of synthetic marijuana, which New Jersey police have recently been given authority to target. Arrests were also made, and 11 illegal guns were seized and put into impound. The drugs that were taken were estimated to be worth $160,000.
Though most New Jersey residents wouldn’t want to believe that drugs, guns, violence, and crime can exist in their neighborhoods, the fact is that all these things are endemic across the state. The high rates of drug addiction and abuse contribute to crime, violence, poor health, and many other problems that trouble New Jersey. Though some residents want to target drug users with prison sentences and punishment, research shows that drug treatment is a far more effective way to combat drug addiction. Under Gov. Christie, New Jersey has expanded its programs designed to treat drug users and rehabilitate them in order to re-integrate them into society.
Though New Jersey does face a crisis of drug use and abuse, there is hope. Thankfully there is excellent treatment available. Medications and cognitive-behavioral therapy have proven to be effective in treating drug addictions. Addicts are often unable to cope with treatment on their own, or even with family members’ help, so it’s very important to find the right treatment center.
