Demi Lovato’s Road to Recovery

Demi Lovato’s Road to Recovery

Demi Lovato is a 19 year old American singer, songwriter, musician, and actress—most recognized for her role in the Disney sitcom Sonny with a Chance. Lovato, like many child stars before her, has had personal problems in her life that has lead her to seek professional treatment. Lovato has found the strength to recover and is now giving her fans an inside look of what life has been like since leaving her treatment center last year by documenting it for the MTV special “Demi Lovato: Stay Strong,” debuting Tuesday, March 6, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.

The special will follow the singer in her most private moments, as she deals with her very public recovery from personal issues, including an eating disorder and cutting. “Stay Strong” shows her confronting these problems while still working on her career, including going back on the road for a tour. It’s inspiring to see a young person take a leadership role after recovering from problems of her own.  In a statement about her special on MTV, Lovato says “I wanted to share my story but I knew it had to be honest, it had to be real. I have daily challenges but so do many kids who are struggling to feel comfortable in their own skin. If opening up and sharing my story inspires even one person to stay strong or to get the help they need, I’ve succeeded.”

Lovato has displayed a few admirable characteristics that people who struggle with addictions or other personal issues can take notice of. By publicly sharing her story it will give girls her age a positive example of a healthy lifestyle after going through similar problems and treatment, but most importantly Lovato set an example by first seeking professional help.
