Live a Full Life in Sobriety
Transitioning from a life of addiction to a life of sobriety is a big change. You have to completely transform your life in order to be successful in your sobriety. What you spent your time doing before is most likely not what you are going to spend your time doing sober. You will need to redefine your idea of ‘fun.’ Many people find this challenging and often end up becoming bored and turning back to drugs or alcohol.
One of the first things you need to do is accept the boredom. Come to terms with the fact that feeling bored sometimes may be a good thing because you are no longer filling your time with your addiction. Be grateful you are sober and healthy now. Be open to new hobbies and ideas of new activities to do. Filling your time with a new and healthy hobby will benefit your recovery.
Another thing to calm your boredom is to exercise. Incorporating daily exercise into your life can help you get into a new routine. A few exercises that have proven to be helpful in recovery are Yoga and Meditation. Going on a walk or job will also get your blood flowing and endorphins up, making you feel happier.
Finally, connect with other people in recovery. You will find solace in knowing there are other people going through the same thing as you. You can be there to support each other in times of weakness or even in times of boredom.
