Keeping it Simple

Blog post by: Alumni Relations Specialist

Keeping it simple. It is easier said than done?  Or is it really that simple and our addict minds like to complicate it? The rooms are full of different clichés that we hear every day:  “One day at a time,” “Recovery is a journey, not a destination,” “NA is not for people who need it, it’s for people who want it,” and countless others. You may catch yourself rolling your eyes when you hear the same one over and over, or it goes in one ear and out the other. These clichés are there for a reason and help many of us continue to stay on the right path and fight when times get hard. This is not a hard process, it is a simple program for complicated people.  Take it one day at a time and keep it simple, you will get through this and learn to enjoy life again without drugs and alcohol.  Next time you hear someone saying one of those clichés you have heard countless times before, listen to what they are saying and try to apply it to a situation you are going through, it may just save your life.
