Priest Makes $300,000 Selling Meth
It’s not something out of the TV show Breaking Bad—it’s a Roman Catholic priest who’s been indicted for selling methamphetamine. The priest, a monsignor in Hartford, Connecticut, allegedly made more than $300,000 in a meth distribution network that stretched from California to Connecticut. The Diocese of Bridgeport suspended him last year after questions were raised about his personal conduct, including drug sales and sexual encounters with men in the rectory.
Though selling drugs can be quite a lucrative business, this priest’s story shows that a drug lifestyle will eventually catch up to you. You don’t have to be major drug dealer for drugs to ruin your life, though. Drugs can destroy your health, your relationships, and your finances—not to mention land you in jail like this “monsignor of meth.” If you have a drug problem, it could be your name and face all over the news. The good news, though, is that there is always hope. A good program of treatment can get you clean and turn your life around.
If you have a problem with alcohol or drug abuse or know someone who does, you should seek help now for yourself or your loved one. Thankfully, there is good help available. Detoxification and behavioral therapy have proven to be effective in treating drug dependence. Addicts are often unable to complete treatment on their own or with family members, so it’s very important to seek the right treatment center.
