Venezuela Deports Drug Lord to Columbia

As part of a joint Venezuela-U.S. task force operation, the Venezuelan government recently deported a prominent drug kingpin back to his home country of Colombia. He had been held for two months in Venezuela, after being captured at a payphone through the efforts of the United States’ and Venezuela’s law enforcement agencies. The plan is for the drug lord to be extradited to the United States after a holding period in Colombia, according to Gen. Jose Roberto Leon, Colombia’s National Police director, who spoke briefly as the suspects arrived at the airport.

This particular drug leader was known as “El Loco,” or “The Madman.” Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos also referred to him as “the last of the great capos.” Though some people think of drug use as a victimless crime, the sad truth is that any drug use directly supports drug violence, crime, and the criminal empires and exploitations of people like “El Loco.” The good news is that no matter what the drug is, whether it’s cocaine, heroin, prescription pills, marijuana, alcohol, meth, PCP, bath salts, or anything else, the same remedy works the best: a good treatment program at a top-rated facility.

If you or someone you know has a problem with addiction or dependence to drugs, you should seek help now. Thankfully, there is good help available. Detoxification and behavioral therapy have proven to be effective in treating drug dependence. Addicts are often unable to complete treatment on their own or with family members, so it’s very important to seek the right treatment center.
