New Jersey Targets “Wet” Dealers with New Penalties

After a string of high-profile cases of users of “wet” becoming violent toward children, New Jersey is taking action by increasing penalties for dealers that sell it. “Wet,” a combination of PCP and marijuana, was involved in murder-suicide beheading of a two-year-old last month, and also the slaying of a six-year-old boy (accompanied by injuries to his sister). “Wet” is notoriously unpredictable: State Senator Donald Norcross said, “Handing someone wet is like handing them a time bomb without a timer—you don’t know when it might go off.”

Whether the drugs in question are meth, cocaine, marijuana, PCP, bath salts, prescription pills or anything else, the fact is that they’re dangerous on their own—and only get more dangerous when combined together. Most illicit drugs are even cut with other substances, which only increases the likelihood of producing an unexpected interaction in the drugs. The interactions can then make a drug user do things they normally wouldn’t, as tragically illustrated by the mother who beheaded her two-year-old before killing herself. As always, the best remedy to combat the dangers of drugs remains a good treatment program.

If you have a problem with drug addiction or dependence, you should seek help before you do something you regret—or worse. Thankfully, there is good help available. Detoxification and behavioral therapy have proven to be effective in treating drug dependence. Addicts are often unable to complete treatment on their own or with family members, so it’s very important to seek the right treatment center. At Seabrook, we customize our treatment plans to individual patient’s needs, so you know the help you’re getting is right for you or a loved one.
