Man from Camden Gets 7 Years for Heroin Distribution

A 31-year-old man from Camden, New Jersey was recently sentenced to at least 7 years in prison after being found guilty to a charge of conspiring to distribute heroin. He had been busted along with 27 others back in December 2011 in a law-enforcement sting called Operation Jumpstart, according to sources. The drug dealer ended up pleading guilty in the court case, admitting that he did conspire to distribute heroin.

Camden is one of the poorest cities in the United States and often lands on the top 10 lists for things like violent crime, property crime, and drug abuse. Though some people think of drug usage as a victim-less crime, the fact is that drugs and the criminal networks needed to distribute them cause irreparable damage, not only to individual’s lives, but also to America’s cities. This is true whether the drug is heroin, like in this case, meth, cocaine, crack, PCP, marijuana, or prescription pills.

If you have a problem with alcohol or drug abuse or know someone who does, you should seek help now for yourself or your loved one. Thankfully, there is good help available. Detoxification and behavioral therapy have proven to be effective in treating drug dependence. Addicts are often unable to complete treatment on their own or with family members, so it’s very important to seek the right treatment center.
