Former Phillies Pitcher Supports Drug and Alcohol Rehab

Dickie Noles pitched for the Philadelphia Phillies in the 1980’s and in Major League Baseball for 16 years total. He currently works as an assistance director for the Phillies, but he is actively taking part in the drug and alcohol treatment fight, because he himself is a recovering alcoholic. Back in 1983, Noles entered the Chicago Northwest Medical Hospital for alcoholism treatment after drunkenly assaulting a police officer after a Chicago Cubs game.

Noles now travels the minor league circuit, counseling players on the dangers of drugs and alcohol. He is not a certified addiction counselor, but due to his troubled past he has dedicated his efforts towards helping others avoid situations similar to what he went through. Noles has admitted to drinking as early as age 12, but claims that he never played baseball while under the influence. He said he’s been sober since 1983 after his treatment in Chicago, and he now is in full support of drug and alcohol rehabilitation because he has personally seen the good that the treatment centers can do. It’s important to have proponents of rehabilitation that have been through the treatment and had a successful and lasting recovery because people respect experience. Experience is a key factor in the drug and alcohol rehabilitation process because it is a way to relate to people who are going through similar issues, and the treatment team at Seabrook has plenty of addiction treatment experience.
