Exploring Synthetic Marijuana

New synthetic drugs are being introduced today at an alarming rate and because their ingredients are virtually unknown it’s difficult to measure how dangerous they truly are. Synthetic bath salts have recently been contained to a level where they are as easily available as they were a year ago. These ‘bath salts’ produce methamphetamine-like cravings, but for a while they went unnoticed because they were sold in local head shops and convenience stores as actual bath salts. They went unnoticed until an shocking number of people were showing up to the hospital claiming they snorted or inject bath salts which resulted in confusing and never before seen medical issues.

But synthetic drugs are still finding their way to the cities and suburbs of America, as synthetic marijuana is still relatively easily available for purchase online. For a while synthetic marijuana was sold legally as a potpourri or incense, but it has since been banned.  While synthetic marijuana hasn’t been proven to be as harmful as bath salts, the drug is still considered a threat because of the unknown specific ingredients and the reaction that people could potential have to these ingredients.  The substance is created through a mixture of plant and herbal materials, but it’s then sprayed with some kind of chemicals which are the cause for concern with the drug.

Synthetic marijuana has become such a large problem today because the drug does not show up in a drug urine test. Teens are especially attracted to the drug, and it has been blamed for a few hospitalizations over the past year. Synthetic marijuana has been known to produce an extreme high for a short amount of time, but during that short extreme period bodily functions and coordination are virtually uncontrollable and brain cells are fried at an elevated rate. This drug is simply bad news and it can and has constantly been linked to users transitioning into harder drugs after synthetic marijuana becomes boring. Drug abuse has become a huge problem in today’s society and the addition of synthetic drugs to the equation is both unsettling and dangerous because of the unknown response to mysterious chemicals. It’s important to understand the dangerous of drug abuse and get professional help if a drug abuse problem is already occurring.
