The Salvation Army has officially withdrawn its offer to purchase an empty elementary school. The organization had a $500,000 purchase agreement with a public school it. The Salvation Army was looking to move its Turning Point drug rehabilitation program from its current location in downtown Grand Rapids into the empty school. Neighborhood residents were against the organization moving into the school. On Sept. 26, the Salvation Army held a community meeting for community members. The gymnasium at the former elementary school was packed with area residents who voiced many concerns over the possibility of the program moving in. The Salvation Army decided to withdraw from the purchase after hearing from residents.

There needs to not be this stigma with addiction treatment. Almost everyone knows someone who is struggling to live a clean and sober life. We need community support to help save these lives.
