Three Drinks a Day Increases Cancer Risk

The World Cancer Research Fund finds that the leading cause of liver cancer is consuming three alcoholic drinks per day. This was discovered after researchers analyzed 34 studies that involved 8.2 million people. Out of the 8.2 million, at least 24,500 were diagnosed with liver cancer.

The researchers looked at many different factors that may cause liver cancer. The factors included weight, diet, physical activity, and coffee consumption. Besides alcohol intake, obesity was found to be the other leading factor in developing the disease followed by eating food with aflatoxins, fungal poisons. However, drinking coffee regularly reduced the risk.

The World Cancer Research Fund suggests that men should not drink more than two alcoholic drinks a day, and women should not drink more than one alcoholic drink per day. This will lower the risk of this specific cancer. The American Institute for Cancer Research states that Americans should aim to stay at a healthy weight and limit or avoid alcohol intake. By doing so, they could reduce liver cancer by 30 percent, or 10,700 cases a year.
