Salem County Recognizes Drug Court Graduates

Salem County hosted the first of three Drug Court Graduation ceremonies on Monday, May 5, 2014. The Drug Court program is a way to rehabilitate those that are charged with non-violent, drug-related cases. Through the strictly regulated rehabilitation program, participants can become clean and sober and turn their lives around. Jamie Smith who is celebrating 3 years of sobriety was one of the graduates in Monday’s ceremony. “It’s overwhelming because I never believed I could actually be a normal 35-year-old Salem resident,” said Smith. “Having the disease of addiction is very hard because for so long you think, that’s the only thing you’re ever good for.”

Addiction can happen to anyone, and the important thing to do is get into treatment for it. Recovery needs to be the number one priority in your life.
