NJ Enacts Good Samaritan Law
Last month NJ Governor Chris Christie signed into law the ‘Good Samaritan Overdose Protection Law’. NJ is the 12th state to have enacted such a law. The
law provides protection from drug charges for those who call 911 to report that someone has overdosed. Allowing them to get the medical attention they
need, but otherwise would not have gotten.
Various versions of the Good Samaritan law that was enacted in New Jersey are beginning to be considered in other states. As more people realize that the drug problem is affecting so many teens and young adults who fear prosecution if they try to call the police, more states will begin to follow.
