New Jersey Police Say, “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over”

New Jersey police are targeting drunk driving with a new initiative that will put more cops on the road and put new focus on DUI warning signs. The cops will be setting up extra patrols and checkpoints all over New Jersey, and will continue their extra measures until September 3. Though the number of people killed by alcohol and auto accidents has fallen over the past several years, officials say it is still too high, and they’re committing to lowering it even further.

Gary Poedubicky, the acting Director for the  Division of Highway Traffic Safety, said, “All too often, innocent, law-abiding people suffer tragic consequences and the loss of loved ones due to this careless disregard for human life.” Because there are more alcohol-related traffic incidents at night and on weekends, there will be even more enforcement at those times.
