New Jersey Expands Program for Prescription Pill Disposal

New Jersey Expands Program for Prescription Pill Disposal

If you need a place to get rid of expired or leftover medication in New Jersey, there’s good news! New Jersey’s Division of Consumer Affairs runs something called “Project Medicine Drop,” and it’s expanding. 20 new drop sites have been added to the list of state-wide places to drop off prescription pills that are no longer needed. “Our goal is to give New Jersey consumers a safe and secure way to get rid of unused medications and[…] help keep them out of the hands of anyone who is not taking them under a doctor’s care,” said the New Jersey Attorney General, Jeffrey S. Chiesa.

As many people know, the abuse of prescription pills like Oxycontin and Adderall is growing rapidly, especially compared to outright illegal drugs like heroin, meth, cocaine, PCP, marijuana, and others. Chiesa went as far as to call the abuse of prescription drugs an “epidemic” in New Jersey. Over 70% of people who abuse prescription pills get them from friends or relatives—often from the medicine cabinet, where leftover or expired medication can sit for a long time without anyone thinking about it.

If you or someone you know has a problem with prescription drug abuse, you should seek help now. Thankfully, there is good help available. Detoxification and behavioral therapy have proven to be effective in treating drug dependence. Addicts are often unable to complete treatment on their own or with family members, so it’s very important to seek the right treatment center. At Seabrook, we customize our treatment plans to individual patient’s needs, so you know the help you’re getting is right for you or a loved one.
