Mexican Beauty-Queen Killed in Drug Shootout

Mexican Beauty-Queen Killed in Drug Shootout

A 20-year-old beauty queen was killed recently in Mexico in a large-scale shootout between police and the gang of drug-runners she was traveling with. Her body was found lying next to an assault rifle in Sinaloa, which is a state in Mexico that has been very hard-hit by the escalating drug-related violence.  Sinaloa is home to Mexico’s biggest drug cartel. “She was with the gang of criminals, but we cannot say whether she participated in the shootout,” said prosecutor Marco Antonio Higuera.

The gunfight broke out when the cartel opened fire on the Mexican police. Though the beauty queen was apparently the only casualty, this kind of drug-related violence is common in Mexico even though this fight claimed an uncommon victim. What many drug users don’t realize is that their drug use directly support violence, warfare, gangs, and killings just like this. Using drugs is no victimless crime—real people get hurt, sent to jail, or killed. If you’re a drug user, you’re contributing to these tragedies. The good news, however, is that drug addiction is very treatable.

If you think you have a problem with drug dependence or abuse, you should seek help instead of supporting criminals. Thankfully, there is good help available. Detoxification and behavioral therapy have proven to be effective in treating drug dependence. Addicts are often unable to complete treatment on their own or with family members, so it’s very important to seek the right treatment center.
