Gov. Christies’ War on Drugs
Gov. Christie recently visited a drug treatment center and said there is simply no more important issue to me in my heart than combating drug addiction and abuse. The issue of drug abuse became personal for the Governor about 8 years ago when one of his best friends from law school had developed an addiction to prescription drugs. Christie watched first-hand how one of the smartest and successful people he knew lost his job, got divorced and became estranged to his three young daughters. Then earlier this year, Christie received a phone call that his friend was found dead in a motel room along with empty bottles of vodka and Percocet. In an effort to combat the war on drugs, Christie has expanded the use of drug courts in New Jersey and has pushed for those facing minor drug offenses to complete a treatment program.
