Gary Mendell, retired Chief Executive of HEI Hotels & Resorts is speaking out about addiction. The proud father of his son, Brian, whom he calls his best friend struggled for years with a drug addiction. Sadly, in October of 2011, after a year of sobriety, Brian’s addiction cost him his life. Now Mendell is speaking out to other parents about the fight against addiction. In 2012, Mendell launched an organization, Shatterproof which he hopes will gain national recognition as an addiction support organization. Its mission is about educating the public on addiction as well as to fund research on addiction treatment, prevention and recovery.
