Drugs and Alcohol a Factor Rodney King’s Death

Drugs and Alcohol a Factor Rodney King’s Death

The recently released coroner’s report in the case of Rodney King’s untimely death has ruled that he drowned in a swimming pool in a drug- and alcohol-fueled “delirium.” King became famous in 1991 when he was badly beaten by the LAPD, an incident which later led to accusations of racism and police brutality. King had struggled for years with drug and alcohol problems, estranging his family and receiving citations for driving under the influence of alcohol. The county coroner stated that alcohol, marijuana, cocaine, and PCP were all found in King’s body in trace amounts.

According to Cynthia Kelly, King pounded on the sliding glass door and said “baby, come help me” before crashing into a planter and falling into his swimming pool. Kelly was unable to help him because she couldn’t swim very well. King’s death is another preventable tragedy caused by the abuse of drugs and alcohol, and another celebrity death in a year that’s been full of them. If there’s one thing people can learn from these high-profile cases, it’s that alcohol, marijuana, PCP, and cocaine are dangerous and should not be treated lightly.

If you think you have a problem with drug or alcohol dependence or abuse, you should seek help now before you become the next tragedy. Thankfully, there is good help available.
