Drug Rehab Motion Picture Motivation: Leaving Las Vegas

For those that struggle with an addiction to drugs, alcohol, gambling, or any other compulsion, motivation to get clean can come in many forms—and seeing a movie that can be relatable to an addict’s life can be the right motivation to kick-start a successful recovery. Though some people think that movies can often be a bit fabricated, their messages can be very powerful and convincing. The movie Leaving Las Vegas starring Nicolas Cage is a drama film that can be potentially moving for those who struggle with alcoholism. Here’s a quick synopsis of the movie:

Because his wife left him and took his son with her, screenwriter Ben Anderson (Nicolas Cage) has started drinking….a lot. When he gets fired, he decides to leave everything behind and move to Las Vegas and drink himself to death. In Las Vegas he meets Sera, (Elisabeth Shue), a prostitute with some problems as well who he moves in with. The two go on to create an odd relationship and display the negative effects stemming from the life of a suicidal alcoholic. There are a few lessons that can be learned after watching a movie like Leaving Las Vegas —most importantly being the dangers of abusing alcohol and how the abuse can change your life for the worse. Another lesson, displayed in this film by the lack of it, is the importance of getting clean and sober through professional help. Living the life of an alcoholic can lead to uncharacteristic behavior and, as displayed in Leaving Las Vegas, potential suicidal behavior.

It’s unfortunately common for people to fall into an alcohol addiction to try and cope with their problems, but substance abuse is never the right way to go, and unfortunately sometimes people learn the hard way. But in order to recover, it’s extremely important to first become conscious of your problem, or make your loved one conscious of their problem, and then find that burning motivation to change the addictive ways. It can be very difficult for a drug addict or an alcoholic and their family to accomplish these things on their own, so that’s where Seabrook can help.
