Celebrities Glamorizing Drugs and Alcohol on Social Media
As social media popularity rises, more and more celebrities are signing up for the websites to connect with their fans and share their lives. The most mainstream social sites celebrities are active on are Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
On these sites, celebrities often post pictures of themselves in different social environments, some of which involve drugs or alcohol. For example, Snoop Dog, the celebrity with the most posts on Instagram, poses with alcohol in 7.4 percent of his pictures. Other frequent celebrity posters of alcohol and drugs are Diddy, Rhianna, Drake and Nicki Minaj.
Another celebrity that has caused controversy on the topic of drugs on social media is Miley Cyrus. The singer frequently posts pictures of herself with the hashtags #drugaddict and #alcoholic. She glamorizes these drugs to her followers who want to be like her.
Many followers of these celebrities look up to them and try to emulate them at times. If they see one of their favorite singers smoking marijuana or drinking alcohol, they may be more likely to try these things as well.
Although celebrities are entitled to live their own lives, they should take into consideration the people that watch what they do and realize how much they influence them.
