Addiction and Young Adults

Addiction can be described as a condition of being abnormally dependent on some habit. Addiction can be physical or psychological and in most cases is both. More common than not, the young adult population is getting hooked on heroin and other opiates. According to the New Jersey Council on Drug and Alcohol Abuse, the number of New Jersey residents ages 18-25 admitted to addiction treatment facilities for heroin use rose more than 12 percent from 2011- 2012. It has become a statewide epidemic as more and more young adults are turning to heroin. Many organizations have instituted community outreach programs education parents on addiction and treatment options.
