Washington Parish residents have access to assistance during times of crisis, and the number is 2-1-1. The call center is manned by paid counselors, volunteer counselors and interns. It is available 24 hours a day to provide crisis and suicide prevention counseling and information and referral to programs to help with needs such as food, shelter, medical care, financial assistance, counseling programs, substance abuse treatment and child care.

Vialink is the 2-1-1 provider for Washington Parish and nine other parishes in the Greater New Orleans area. The 2-1-1 crisis line is a welcome service for law enforcement personnel as well. Deputies are not trained to deal with people who are experiencing emotional crisis or who are suicidal.
