Narcan will start being used in Cumberland County, New Jersey.
In March of 2014 a waiver was signed by Gov. Christie and Health Commissioner O’Dowd allowing emergency medical technicians statewide to use Narcan. Narcan is used to reverse the effect of narcotics like heroin, and will help save lives. Heroin use has increased becoming a problem in Millville and surrounding areas.
The Millville Rescue Squad received training on administrating Narcan and now are properly able to administer Narcan to suspected overdose victims. Narcan has minimal effects on someone who is not suffering from an overdose, which makes the decision to administer it less dangerous. Narcan is a second chance for residents addicted to narcotics and their families. The Millville Rescue Squad will use this helpful tool in hopes to see the number of overdoes deaths drastically decrease.
