New Jersey Drug Task Force Combats Heroin

According to experts, New Jersey is facing a growing epidemic of heroin abuse and overdoses, heroin-related crime, and prescription pill abuse. In response, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has created a task force whose mission it is to combat the spread of illegal or misused drugs throughout the state. In the past year, drug deaths have grown from 884 to 1000, to cite one troubling statistic. The task force has held several public hearings to get feedback from community members, insurance companies, rehab facility staff, and anyone affected by the abuse of drugs.

Though this task force specifically focuses on heroin and prescription painkiller abuse, the best remedy is the same for drugs: a good program of treatment in a highly-rated facility. This is true whether the drug in question is heroin, prescription pills, marijuana, alcohol, cocaine, meth, PCP, bath salts, or anything else. In fact, one of Christie’s projects as governor has been to focus on sending drug criminals to treatment instead of prison, which has resulted in very good results.

If you or someone you know has a problem with addiction or dependence to synthetic drugs, you should seek help now. Thankfully, there is good help available. Detoxification and behavioral therapy have proven to be effective in treating drug dependence. Addicts are often unable to complete treatment on their own or with family members, so it’s very important to seek the right treatment center.
