Speak Up for Recovery Month
September is National Recovery Month. Recovery Month’s purpose is to educate people on the disease of addiction and mental health issues and to spread positive and encouraging messages to those in or affected by recovery. It is also to show the general public that treating behavioral and mental health will improve overall health.
National Recovery Month is a national observance that began in 1989 to honor the healthcare professionals that work in treatment and recovery. Over the years it has evolved to honor all those affected by either addiction or mental health.
This year’s theme is “Join the Voices for Recovery: Speak Up, Reach Out.” This encourages the whole recovery community and beyond to voice their opinions and open their minds about addiction and mental health. Everyone coming together and talking about these big issues will bring awareness and help people understand the recovery community.
Addiction can happen to anyone, and the important thing to do is get into treatment for it. Recovery needs to be the number one priority in your life.
