Child Injured While Mother Was Out Using Drugs

A northwest Missouri woman whose infant son lost seven fingers when he was attacked by a ferret has been ordered to undergo drug treatment. The mother was sentenced Tuesday to two years of probation and 30 days in a drug treatment plan after she pleaded guilty to second-degree child endangerment.

The Mother and her husband were accused of leaving the 4-month-old baby unsupervised with the ferret. They initially claimed they were asleep in their home at the time but cell phone records showed the couple was not home when the baby was injured. They were at the couple’s drug dealer’s home. The Father pleaded guilty last March to second-degree child endangerment and was ordered to serve 40 hours of community service and take parenting classes. The children are living with relatives.
