Police Will Collect Extra Medications

The police department in Teaneck, New Jersey has announced that they’ll be collecting leftover and expired medications the weekend after next. There will be collection sites set up on Saturday, September 29th and Sunday, September 30th. This is a one-time event, but there are relatively frequent drug take-back days all over the United States. Don’t flush medications down the toilet, that can lead to contaminated groundwater and chemicals leeching into the soil.

Even in a world bedeviled by illegal drugs like meth, bath salts, marijuana, cocaine, and PCP, prescription drug misuse is one of the greatest dangers facing unsuspecting users. Many people actually believe that using prescription medication is less dangerous than street drugs because doctors and pharmaceutical companies make them rather than a druggie in a dingy lab. However, this confidence can lead to downfall: without a doctor to direct them, users can mix drugs, overdose, or otherwise put themselves in grave danger. The best remedy is the same as always: a good drug treatment program.

If you have a problem with drug addiction or dependence, now is definitely the best time to seek help—before something like an overdose or adverse reaction happens to you. Thankfully, there is good help available. Detoxification and behavioral therapy have proven to be effective in treating drug and alcohol dependence. Addicts are often unable to complete treatment on their own or with family members, so it’s very important to seek the right treatment center.
